Each year we read the 12 Days of Christmas. Two of our favorite books are The Twelve Days of Christmas by Jan Brett and The Twelve Days of Christmas by Susan Jeffers.

What you need for this activity: circle cookie cutter, foam brush, water color crayons from Target or watercolor pencils, water and paper.

You start by tracing the inside of the circle cookie cutter. You want to make sure you make a dark line with the watercolor crayon. If you are using a watercolor pencil make sure you do several passes around the circle to get a good line.

Next you wet down the brush and with as little water as you can. Then you move the brush back and forth across the lines to move the yellow color around. When you use less water you get a better swipe of the brush.

  1. We tie books into our build up to the holiday as well. I think that reading to a child creates amazing bonds and needs to be part of everyday, and when, we can read special books that tie into the holidays, it creates lasting memories. Turning the books into a craft as well is a great idea.

  2. Wow, this is another good activity! I can totally see my kid using the Montessori metal insets for this work. It’s a wonderful extension for Christmas. Thanks!!
