Apples are a huge fall theme at our house. We do almost two weeks of fun activities with them. We end our apple season about the time of Johnny Appleseed’s birthday. Which is today!
There are always so many fun apple things you can do. This apple cookie cutter painting is a fun way to make a wonderful painting.
The book we read with this activity was Apples by Gail Gibbons. It is great for learning about apples and the different types of apples.
We have love doing the cookie cutter painting. This allows different ages to do the same activity together. This is also something that is totally up to my girls how they paint the apples. My youngest picked out the colors of apples she wanted to paint. She decided every part of the activity.
Before we started the activity we talked about what color of apples she remembered from the book. We looked at the colors that she might use in her painting. She would point to each of them with her brush.
Painting with the cookie cutter is really use and fun. You have to hold the cookie cutter in place with one hand and fill in the color with the brush. It is great for fine motor.
Part way through her painting she asked for an apple to look at. I got out one and she decided that apples could have more than one color.
Here is a look at our final painting.
