To make your own Beach and Ocean Hand and Foot Print Project you will need the following supplies:

  • Sheet of Large Construction Paper
  • Brown and Green Washable Paint (I use Tempura)
  • Finger Paints, Various Colors
  • Paint Brush
  • Goggly eyes
  • White Glue
  • Corn Meal
  • Crayons/Markers

The first thing to do with this art project is to get messy!  So, pick a spot that you can clean-up easily.  Start by painting your artist’s foot with brown washable (Tempera) paint like this:

Then, have your artist carefully step on the middle of your paper, but not too high as you still need to apply the branches.  This footprint will be the base of the palm tree and the toes with be the coconuts.  Wash up your artist’s foot.  Once their foot is dry, paint each of their hands (one-at-a-time) with the green washable (Tempera) paint and have them apply them to the top of the palm tree to make the top and branches like this:

Once both hands are applied, their palm tree should look something like this:

Again, help your artist clean-up. Next, apply a liberal amount of glue from the edges of your paper to the base of your palm tree.  If you need to, use a paint brush to get it distributed to the area around the base of the tree to make your beach.  Then, sprinkle corn meal all over the glue to make the course feeling of the sand without using sand.  Allow your beach and tree to dry.  Once dry, carefully shake the excess corn meal off your beach.  Then it is time to draw some fish.  Select about four different finger paint colors and have your artist paint thumb prints for fish.  As soon as the fish are dry, glue a goggly eye on each one like this:

Then, complete the fish however you would like using crayons or markers like this:

Once the fish are done, fill in the bottom of the page by coloring in your ocean so that your beach how has an ocean and waves to crash up on it over your fish like this:
