Butterfly Silhouette Painting

We have been studying butterflies at our house. It has been a really fun unit study for us. The girls had some time out of school so we got to do a few activities together around it. It is always fun to see the many different types of butterflies there are.

We really like the monarch butterfly. We have read a lot of books about it. We read the book Monarch Butterfly by Gail Gibbons. She has lots of great non-fiction books that she has done.

What you need for this activity: Martha Stewart Crafts Large Punch, Monarch Butterfly, black construction paper, white paper, and paints orange and white.

The first thing they did was decide what type of orange and white they were going put out on their paper. Each had their own ideas of what they wanted. It is fun to see how different each of my girls does a project.

While the paint was still wet, they placed the butterflies on their paintings. It was fun to see how many or how little they would place on their paintings.

After we finish the project my older two reread the book Monarch Butterfly. Each of them read a page. It was a great review for them.
