Color Freight Train
I love that every month we look for new books while we are in the virtual book club for kids. This month we knew all three books by Donald Crews. We had a hard time picking just one book. We have read all three books.
I really liked the colors in Freight Train. So that is the book we pick this month. We did two different kids of activities for our train. It was fun and interesting to see what would happen.
What you need for this activity: train cookie cutter, watercolor colored pencils, oil pastels and a foam brush.
The first one we did was with watercolor colored pencils. She traced the train and made some rectangle boxes.
Then she used the foam brush and water to push the colors together.
The second one we repeated the first process of training the train and used the oil pastels for her second train.
Then she used her finger and smudged the color across the train. We talked about how the colors mixed really easy.
Here is a look at our two trains. We had fun comparing the two different techniques of the trains.

I love how this captures the feel of the book. What a neat technique to share with the kids.
What a neat technique!
Love the techniques used here and how you got the feel of the book.
I really like how you compared the different art media!
This is a great extension to the book!
I love the technique, having the kids copy what you did at the top. I like it very much.
