A Fun Presidents Day Craft: Cotton Ball Wigs

Presidents Day was yesterday. The girls and I had some fun. We talked about George Washington and the times he lived in. What is more, fun than to make a cotton ball wig to be apart of the era?

We talked about George Washington and the times he lived in. We search around on the web and looked at paintings from that era. We also read some history from What Your Preschooler Needs to Know: Get Ready for Kindergarten (Core Knowledge Series). The girls liked the wigs they saw in some of the pictures. So we set about to make some wigs.

What you need to make this craft

How you make the wigs

I measured each of the girls heads with the tape roll. I laid out a roll of paper, and cut the length that we needed. I put the cuts on to the paper to make the hat.

The paper was placed around their head and taped. This was to make sure it would be a great fit when we were done. This was something fun to see.

The cut pieces were pulled to the center and taped down to make a small hat that covered their heads.

Towels were placed inside so they would hold their shape while the cotton balls were attached.

Glue was placed in a paint dish so they could dip the cotton balls. M just wanted to play in the cotton balls for the first part, but did glue some of them on her hat. R and A loved the project. A wanted to pile all the cotton balls on top and not any around. M did not like the glue on her fingers because the cotton balls kept getting stuck.

Bows were added to the back and the wig was left to dry.

Here we are wearing our wigs.
