Leaves are a great theme for the fall. We always have so much fun with them. There are so many projects you can do with them. I think that painting with cookie cutters is fast becoming one of our favorite ways to paint.
It is very open ended in how they want to do the project. They have paint how they want and what they want. They have a lot of freedom to pick and choose on a project like this.
We read the book Red Leaf, Yellow Leaf. This has to be a our favorite fall book. I think we read it at least 4 or 5 times and do several activities every fall. This year is no different. This was the book they picked to go with this activity.
You pick your cookie cutter that you are going to use. You pick the color of watercolor paint. You hold the cookie cutter with one hand while you paint with the other hand. This is great for fine motor development.
We love to do this. It is an easy project that multiple ages can do together. It is also something that is easy to set up in no time at all. My middle daughter asked for leaf painting project and this was put together for her in less than 3 minutes.
