What we used to make the Nativity Painting with Cookie Cutters
How we made the Nativity Painting with Cookie Cutters
You will see the steps below that we used to make this nativity painting for kids.
Place Cookie Cutters on the Paper
You want to start by placing the cookie cutters on the paper. This gives you an idea of how big to make your yellow circle. You can draw a small pencil line around the cookie cutters if you need to.
Paint the Yellow Part of the Background
You want to make sure you have a watercolor set with lots of colors. We used three different yellow colors for this painting.
You start off with a light yellow. You want to make a circle with yellow in the center of the paper.
Then you work out with brighter yellow colors and then darker yellow colors. This makes the fun transition to the darker colors on the paper.
If you don’t have lots of colors to use, then just use yellow for the center. You can add more water to the paint when painting the center circle and less water as you go out.
Paint the Darker Part of the Background
When you moved from yellow to the darker colors, we went with some browns, then grays, and worked to black. You want to have black around the edges of the paper.
Q-Tip Paint Baby Jesus
You place the baby Jesus cookie cutter on the paper. You want to put it in the middle on the paper. This way it is the center of the painting.
You hold around the edges and use a q-tip to paint inside the cookie cutter with black paint.
After you lift up the cookie cutter you can see baby Jesus looks on the painting
You could also make this cute Baby Jesus Craft to go with this nativity painting.
Q-Tip Paint Mary & Joseph
You then work on painting May and Joseph on the painting.
You can see how easy it is to place Mary’s cookie cutter and paint inside.
Then you move on and paint Joesph on the paper. You repeat the steps above for holding the cookie cutter and painting.
