Parenting & Self Help Books I’m Reading in 2015

Every year I challenge myself to read at least 50 books. Yes, that is about 1 book a week right now. With a little leeway for 2 weeks. I also during that reading want to make sure that I’m going everything I can to also learn new things. This year I added a few parenting and self-help books that I’m going to be reading.

Several of these books are re-reads for me. Why re-read a book I’ve already read? Well for starters several of the books I read at the start of when I had my kids or before I had kids. I also am at a different place in my life and what I get from the book at this time will be different than the last time.

I have several ways that I use the books. For these books I like to have physical copies that I can touch and put marking in. I have really got for most other books to ebooks and I love having ebooks. When I read these books I want to make sure I take the time to put in notes and focus on what I’m reading rather that to read them on the go like I do most other books.

I put tabs and post it notes in the books. They are color coded for each child. This allows me to go back and read sections I thought worked really well for that child. I’ll also make notes and print it smaller to put in the book for each child as well. An example of the note would be:

Pg 113 Signs of Sensory overload

This helps me find what I’m looking for in a book I’ve read. I’ll be making these notes in the new books I’m reading. Plus this helps my husband, it is like reading the cliff notes on what I have learned.

You can see below an example of one of the last time I read a book and my tabs on the book.

There are 13 books that I’ll be reading. Some will be quick reads because I’m re-reading them and others will be new and take longer. My hope is to have them all read by December. I’ve already started on my first book and going through it! I can’t wait to see what I learn this time that will help me out.

The Books I’m Reading

Please note this is not the order that I’ll be reading them. I know that some of my reading will change with the flow of our lives.

You can find out about more of my goals for the year here.

Do you have any self help or parenting books that you are going to be reading this year?

  1. Hi Cassie,

What a terrific list of books – I’m always looking for something new and interesting to read so will definitely be looking into some of these.

It’s also great to see I’m not the only one who fills their books with post it notes 🙂

Good luck reading all those books,

    Karyn

    1. It makes it easier to find what i need and reread what is important or what I though was important at that time. 🙂

    1. I have read a lot of them as well. Several are rereads just because I am different person that when I first read them and I always learn something new.

  2. I’ve read all of the above and more – I must say you have a wonderful list! A great add would be Carol Gray’s Social stories. Also there are different Social skills programs that are truly a great read and great ideas!!!!!!!!!!!!! Let me know if you want more!!!

  3. that is such a great goal- 50 books a year. I think i will do that, even though I’m getting a late start. I probably have about 50 teaching/parenting books in my amazon wish list- maybe i’ll start there! 🙂

  4. I need to read a few of these books. Especially saying goodbye to Survival mode!
