Pompom Games!

Pompoms Games

We have been watching a lot of Olympics and had our own Pompom Games! It was fun and easy to do! We did Pompom Forward Throwing, Pompom Backward Throwing, Pompom Balance, Pompom Relay, Pompom Jumping, Pompom Track, Pompom Bucket Throw, Pompom Weaving, Pompom Throwing and Catching, and Pompom Cheering.

What you need: yarn pompoms, baskets and cones. (My baskets and cones were finds in the dollar section at Target over the last year)

Step 4. Turn over and cut on the opposite side you tied the strand yarn. (Sorry don’t have a picture)

Pompom Forward Throw
This was one of their favorite! They stood behind a cone and threw the yarn pompoms. They were quick to point out they could not throw them as far as they could a normal ball. Each time they were encourages to try to throw farther than they did the time before. We repeated this several times.

Pompom Backward Throw
The girls stood backwards and threw the pompoms behind them. It was a challenge for them. They wanted to turn around. We talked about the difference in distance you could throw forward vs backward.

Pompom Balance
The girls were challenges to walk with the pompoms on their head from one cone turn around and walk back. This was Amelia’s favorite game. She did a walk all the way to the end of the grass and back.

Pompom Relay
For the pompom relay they had to run their pompoms from the bucket to the cone one at a time. Then start from the bucket run to the cone and pick up the pompom and run back to the bucket.

Pompom Jumping
Their pompoms were spaced out down the grass and they had to jump over each pompom as they came to it.

Pompom Track
The girls had to run around the outside edge of pompoms. We counted to see how fast they could run around. They went around by themselves and then spaced out. The last time running around the circle they had to pick up their pompoms.

    1. The girls loved it! They ask to play with the pompoms all the time now. 🙂 I have to admit most of them I just remember from classes when I was in college. 🙂
