Easy To Make Star Sensory Bin

With the 4th of July coming up we have started a few fun activities. Today’s activity is a star sensory bin. This is something that could be used at any time and would be great for a space theme as well. There are two different types of stars in the bin: Buttons and beads.

Sensory bins are lots of fun and they can be very easy to set up. This was a simple set up with very few items really needed. I follow the lead of the child doing the bin. All three of my girls will play with the bin at some time. This is a simple activity to give them ideas but let them lead where it will go.

How We Played in the Star Sensory Bin

First thing she did was pull out the pipe cleaners and start stringing on the beads. She matched the colors to the bead at the end: red, white and blue. She also counted the beads while doing this activity. She wanted them all at different numbers. She would tread and then count the stars. This is a great activity for fine motor.

She sorted out a few of the button from the bin. She did notice they were different from the beads. She said they were flat. But they were similar in that they had 2 holes in them.

After she did that she started putting the beads into the cups. She loves to play with the cups in the bins. She always does something different that I’m not expecting. She likes to pour from one cup to another.

Part way through the play with the bin she asked for a spoon because she was having star soup! The whole bin was soup that was cooking and soup to eat. She spooned in stars to the cups so she could pretend to eat her soup. It was lots of fun. This was her idea and she worked hard on keeping the stars on the spoon.
