There are many different parts to learning to read. And vowel combinations are one way you work on these. There are two types of vowel combinations: vowel teams and diphthongs.
I know that they can be tricky and not always fun to learn. Today’s free Winter Fox Vowel Team & Diphthong Matching is a great way to work on learning this or reviewing these types of words.
I know that we love to have a change in how we are learning. I don’t always like to do the same thing over and over. So this is a fun change from just writing words.
There are two sorting cards for each vowel type. The fox has the vowel combinations and the two paw prints have pictures that match the fox. I recommend laminating the cards to help them last longer.
I also have recording sheets for this as well. You have one sheet for each type plus a fill-in option to use them together.
How we used this printable
You can start by just matching the paw prints to the foxes. This is the most basic way to do it. I like to give them 4 to work with or two that have similar sounds to do.
After you have your matching you record your answer on the sheet. The sheet has the vowels listed to make it easy to see where to write the words.
You can use the paw prints as a matching game. You can match the two paw prints that go together. It is fun and you don’t have to use the fox with this at all.
You can use just the cards and the worksheet. Give them 10 sets of cards and have them flip a card over and write in the vowel combination and the matching word. You could put the cards on a ring for them to flip through.
