# Carrot Number Matching Activity

We have loved The Tale of Peter Rabbit at our house for ages! I think we have had at least 4 different types of copies of it. There are always copies at different places throughout the house.

One part my girls always were upset about was that Peter never had any carrots. They always wanted him to have some carrots. I have always laughed about this. So for my youngest we did a fun activity with a carrot number matching activity. This was a simple number line combine with two different number matching styles. She had tons of fun doing the hands-on activity.

I made this a simple garden style for our numbers. We had some dirt for our number line and carrots and carrots tops. I used tally markers and dots for our different numbers. This allowed her to do different types of number counting. It also did not take more than a few minutes to set up this simple activity.

What you need for this activity: scissors, black marker, and construction paper: brown, green and orange.

To make the activity I cut the brown rows and numbered them. The orange carrots and put tally markers on them. The green carrot tops and put dots on them.

The first activity we did was count down the number in the dirt. Then she matching up the carrots to the number on dirt. She would count the tally markers as she went. She has not done much with tally markers so this was something semi-new for her.

The second activity she matching the carrot tops. She counting the dots on the top of the carrots and matched them to the carrots. This she had a lot of fun doing.

After she had matched up all the carrots she tucked them all in the rows.

We did a fun activity and compared the carrots and carrot tops. We pointed out which was smaller and bigger. Then we would add the two numbers together.
