Easter Egg Number Matching

Every season there are great foam shapes that come out. I love using them for puzzles and some hands on learning.

We have been doing some number matching games and I thought it would be fun to use the foam Easter eggs that I found to do it. We have been reading stories about Easter Eggs. Our favorite book is always The Easter Egg by Jan Brett. I could read that book over and over. While reading the book we count all the different eggs on the pages.

What you need for this activity: Jumbo Foam Easter Eggs (24 pieces per package) and black sharpie marker.

I wrote the number & the name on one side and tally marker & circles (or x’s) on the other side.

The girls started on one side with a stack of half the eggs. They did a crab walk with the eggs on their stomach. Once on the other side, they matched their eggs. We had tons of fun doing the crab walking across the whole while doing this. It made it a full body activity.

After they had all the eggs match up they put them in order and counted to 10.

I mixed up the eggs and they raced to the other side to fix all the miss matched eggs. We did this several times. It was their favorite thing to do.

This was a fun hands on activity for counting. There are so many things you can do with big seasonal foam shapes.

  1. Thanks for the inspiration! I am going to do this with my children. I love how you put them on opposite sides of the room. Genius! How do you teach your girls to work together? My oldest normally takes over.

    1. They each get their own parts and can’t mix them up and can only do their own. We make sure everyone has their own stuff.
