Pirate Sensory Bin
Check out this fun hands on learning with pirates and coin sensory bin! This Pirate sensory bin is fun for any boy or girl that wants to have some sensory bin.
We have been having a pirate week at our house. It help with this I put together this sensory bin. We are also working on coins and recognizing the differences in the coins.
There Was an Old Pirate Who Swallowed a Fish
What you need: Safari Ltd Pirates TOOB, rice and plastic coins.
As always I let them just play with the bin. It is fun to see what they will do and how they adapt play from older sensory bins to the current one.
We sorted the pirates and their items. We talked about the different items in the pirates have. Their favorite was the ship.
Once we had all the pirates and their items out we looked at the coins. They sorted out some of the coins and talked about their names. We looked at quarters and pennies this time.
Don’t forget that the most important part of a sensory bin is just letting them play. The girls liked to pour coins and rice from hands to hands to the bin. As always I love to keep bins around for a week so I can see how they play with each item.
This also works great with Build Up Summer Learning Week 1: Pirates.

This looks like so much fun to explore. What wonderful treasures you filled the bin with.
It has been a week full of fun for us! We love having sensory bins around!
Oh what a fabulous idea for a sensory bin! I’m pinning this to remind me about it later. #supermommyclub
Love the idea of adding the coins. I am doing something similar, added a couple of pirate shaped copper banks to put coins into, lots of red, blue, and clear “diamond” gems, a parrot pill box, seashells, and other things for them to dig with and sort. This theme is turning out so fun for the summer. Thank you for sharing. 🙂
If I could have found where the girls put my gems I would have put them in, but I could not find them before the post. I’m sure they will resurface at some time.
My kids love pirates and pirate books, so this is right up their alley!
Thanks for linking up with The Thoughtful Spot!
What a fun sensory bin theme!
