We read Red Leaf, Yellow Leaf by Lois Ehlert. A great book about the Maple Sugar Tree.

You can see so many great fall colors in the book. I have read this book a lot with my girls. It is a great way to work on learning more about fall and so many great fall colors.

What you need to make your Fall Yarn Tree

How we made the Fall Yarn Tree

We started with the tree but you could paint or color a tree before you put on the yarn.

Put Glue on the Tree

The girls put glue on the paper with the tree where they wanted the leaves to be. Each had a different idea of how big the tree should be.

You can do the glue all a time time or a little bit at a time.

Put Yarn on the Tree

Then they put their yarn on the tree. You can do one color at a time or all the colors of yarn at one time. We did the mix of the colors of yarns.

She had to make sure hers had falling leaves as well. Because leaves fall off the tree in the fall.

Checking the Yarn on the Tree

Every now and then they tested to see if all the yarn was staying on or needed more glue. You just tip the page up and see how much falls off.

Press the Yarn on the Tree

The yarn was pressed down to make it stick more to the glue on the paper. It is a good way to make the yarn stay on the glue on the tree.

  2. What a great idea! And such great fine motor skill practice! I wondered if you’d be willing to let me link to this post in a fall kids craft round up I’m putting together on my blog. If I could link to it and use one of your pictures, it’d be great!
    Thanks!
