Looking for shapes around a room in a classic way to do a hands on learning with shapes. This gives you some hands on learning while in your house. This square search is easy to do and can be changed up for any shape that you might need.<\/p>\n

The set up for this activity is really easy. It is one that you can do with little to no effort on your part. You just need to two materials to start with.<\/p>\n

What you need: tape measure<\/a>\"\", masking tape<\/a>\"\" to make a square (or other shape desired.<\/p>\n

Before we got started Mary wanted to walk around the Square. This is a great way to put gross motor into your learning.<\/p>\n

The girls gathered square items around from the house. They found mostly blocks and books. As they gathered we talked about what makes a square: 4 sides that are the same length. We eliminated a few items they picked out before they were not the same on all four sides.<\/p>\n

After everything was gathered we looked at what was in the square. We took each item out and measured it. Did we really get the same on all four sides?<\/p>\n

We measured one of the blocks and they were able to tell that all the sides were square. We talked about how it made a cube, because all the sides were the same. We talked about how many sides there were on a cube.<\/p>\n

The girls had fun measuring all the items in the pile. This was a great way to learn about the shape and do some math as well.<\/p>\n
