We have been having an apple theme start to our month of September. It is always fun to do some fun activities with apples at the start of apple picking season. I love having sensory bins in the house. Not only are they fun but they give some extra sensory input when you might need it.<\/p>\n

This bin was a lot about learning that apples come in different color and learning those colors. Before we did this bin we read several books about apples. There are many apple books to pick from but here are some we used: The Apple Pie Tree<\/a>\"\", The Seasons of Arnold’s Apple Tree<\/a>\"\" and How Do Apples Grow?<\/a>\"\".<\/p>\n

What you need: bin, rice, red pony beads<\/a>\"\", green pony beads<\/a>\"\", yellow pony beads<\/a>\"\", fall Fillers (got at Michaels), pipe cleaners<\/a>\"\" (red, green, & Yellow) and cups.<\/p>\n

One of my favorite parts about a sensory bin is that you can just explore what is in the for a long time. There are always different ways to explore the items in the bin.<\/p>\n

She did some beading and matching the color of the bead to the pipe cleaner. This is a great way to put fine motor in a sensory bin.<\/p>\n

After she finished her beading we talked about how many beads where on each string. She put different amounts on each pipe cleaner. We did some counting then we did some adding. We talked about how many more beads we needed to add up to match up to the different amounts.<\/p>\n

Next we made some patterns with the apples. I let her pick out the pattern she wanted to do. She did an AABBCC pattern. It was fun to watch her finish it and to repeat the pattern at the end.<\/p>\n

The final activity we did with the apple sensory bin was we sorted the colors out onto papers. We talked about the different sizes of the colors. We also talked about what we could see through and what was opaque. We put one yellow apple on the red paper to see what would happen and talked about the color change.<\/p>\n

This is a fun and easy sensory bin. Like all my bins I leave them around for the girls to play with all week. This have full access to it and love to pull them out and play! My girls fed apples to stuff animals and sorted them in different cups and have had hours of fun with it.<\/p>\n
