We love using the different types of word ladders on the site. The free CVCC Word Family Ladders is a fun addition to learning to read CVCC words. <\/p>\n

They match up with the CVCC Word family Wall Cards<\/a> and make a great addition to CVCC word learning centers.<\/p>\n

We have really enjoyed the CVC Word Family Ladders<\/a>. So I made these for the CVCC Word Family Words.<\/p>\n

The CVCC Word Family Ladder is a great addition to the CVCC Word Printables<\/a> on the site.<\/p>\n

What are CVCC words?<\/h2>\n

CVCC words are words that have a consonant vowel and two consonants. The two consonants at the end are a consonant blend. That is two letters that make their own sounds but are together. You can also have two consonants at the end that are digraphs that is two letters that make the same sound.<\/p>\n

You will find words like mast, ball, dunk, and nest. These are just a few examples. You are going to find that most of these have short vowel sounds.<\/p>\n

You are going to find several CVCC words in the set. Many of them have ending consonant blends like -ll, -ng, -nd, -st, -nk, -mp in these printables.<\/p>\n

You will also find some digraph ending words with ck.<\/p>\n

CVCC Word Family Ladder Printables<\/h3>\n

These are always fun to make and learn new words with the ladders. This is a great way to work on fluency for the ending and start of the word. It can be tricky to put the words together but ladders help make this fun. You can make real and silly words with these word ladders.<\/p>\n

You will see all the CVCC word family endings: -all, -ill, -ell, -ull, -ing, -ang, -ung, -ong, -ast, -ist, -ust, -ost, -est, -ack, -ick, -ock, -uck, -and, -end, -ind, -ond, -und, ink, -unk, -onk, -amp, -imp, -ump.<\/p>\n

These CVCC word ladders are great for kids in kindergarten, first grade, and second grade.<\/p>\n

    Ways to use the CVCC Word Family Ladder Printables<\/h2>\n

    You will see a few ways that I use these CVCC Word Ladders below for learning centers.<\/p>\n

    Preparing the CVCC Wall Cards<\/h3>\n

    Suppose you plan on using the CVCC ladders for building words a lot. It is recommended to print on cardstock<\/a> and laminate<\/a> the CVCC ladders so you can use them for a while.<\/p>\n

    If you are not going to use them a lot then print them on cardstock<\/a> to help them hold up longer.<\/p>\n

    Setting up a CVCC Word Family Ladder Center<\/h3>\n

    I give them different lacing letters<\/a> and the CVCC Word Family Wall Cards<\/a> on a ring when we are first working on words. This gives them beginning sounds of the CVCC words.<\/p>\n

    Setting up a CVCC Word Family Ladder Center without Wall Cards<\/h3>\n

    I also give them the ladders without the CVCC wall cards to have them find real and nonsense words.<\/p>\n

    Building the CVCC Word Family Words <\/h3>\n

    It is fun to build the CVCC words, and kids will enjoy making each of the words as they go. <\/p>\n

    After they have built the CVCC words, you can work on sounding out each word on the ladder. You could also take the same letters and see if they work on similar word endings as well.<\/p>\n

    Building the CVCC Word Family Words with the CVCC Bookmarks<\/h3>\n

    If you are looking for a CVCC word list to use with the ladders but don’t like the wall cards. You can also use the CVCC bookmarks<\/a>. They have a list of words to can make it less confusing for some kids looking to make words.<\/p>\n

    You can read the words on the CVCC word family bookmark and then build the words on the ladder.<\/p>\n

    Recording the CVCC Words Made on the Ladder<\/h3>\n

    After they are comfortable with making the CVCC words, we use the blank writing paper<\/a> to write sentences about our words. We also review some nonsense words and real words and why they work or don’t work for the ladder. I also use the CVCC Word Family wall Cards to check words they have made or have them use the cards if they need help making words.<\/p>\n

    Also, don’t limit yourself to CVCC words you can always make CCVCC words as well! You can pick out blends and digraphs that would work for these.<\/p>\n
