The Grand Canyon is one of the great wonders of the world. My girls and I had a wonderful time visiting the North Rim! This was really something to see and learn about.<\/p>\n

I love taking my girls to new places to see. This was part of our summer trip and they loved it. Plus the National Parks are a great place to take kids!<\/p>\n

As with all trip reviews, I was not asked to do this review or given anything for my review. This is my honest opinion of our trip.<\/p>\n

The North Rim of the Grand Canyon<\/h2>\n

The North Rim of the Grand Canyon is located in the Kaibab Forest. The elevation is around 8,000 feet and offers great views of the canyon from different areas. We stopped first at the Lodge and did the Bright Angel Point trails. The trails have steep drops so be sure to warn kids about them. You can get some great views on the canyon from the lodge as well. They have some fun information about how they get water in the Canyon. They also have a program now where you can buy a stuffed animal and help out an animal in the park. We got a mountain lion to help the park pay for tagging a mountain lion in the park. There are so many fun things to do for kids. The lodge has a location where you can mail postcards as well.<\/p>\n

We also did the driving loop for Imperial Point and Walhalla Ruins and Cape Royal trail. This is a long drive but tons of fun stops you can do along the way. They offer a different look at the Grand Canyon. Part of our time there it was close due to fire but was open before we left. We got to see what the remains of a forest fire are. It was a wonderful learning experience for them.<\/p>\n

Junior Ranger Program<\/h2>\n

We love the Junior Ranger Program<\/a>! It is great to get the kids involved with learning about the park. You have three levels to pick from and do. I have three ages of girls and we love doing it.<\/p>\n

They give you a packet and you complete 4 pages in your age group. They are not hard and you always learn something. Plus you must attend a ranger lead program. If you plan on doing the Junior Ranger program make sure you have enough time for the ranger program. <\/p>\n

We went to the geology one and my girls love learned about the different layers of the canyon. After they finish they got their new badges for the park.<\/p>\n

Where We Stayed<\/h2>\n

We stayed in Jacob’s Lake. We could not get housing for the number of people we had in our group. The hotel is limited 3 per room and the cabins limit 6 at the North Rim. We had 7 people in the group for the visit. <\/p>\n

Jacob’s lake is 30 miles from the park entrance. It is 40 miles from the North Rim Lodge. <\/p>\n

We stayed in the hotel and the rooms were great and we like the beds and offerings in the hotel. Plus they had a great restaurant which offered gluten free food options for my oldest. Plus they were willing to change things up in the way of food changes to help us out.<\/p>\n

They also had a great playground for kids to play in. We enjoyed the stay and it was fun to watch the animals on the drive into the park each day.<\/p>\n

Books About the Grand Canyon<\/h2>\n

While at the Grand canyon, we read several books before and read some during out trip as well. There were many fascinating books about the canyon. I thought I would share some of the books we found and read for the trip. There have been several new books that came out the next few years about the Grand Canyon.<\/p>\n

Where Is the Grand Canyon?<\/a>\"\" is a great chapter book about the Grand Canyon. You can learn about some history, where it is located and things to you can see at the canyon. It is an easy way to tell kids about the canyon.<\/p>\n

Going to Grand Canyon National Park<\/a>\"\" is good picture book about the Grand Canyon. It has lots of details for kids to learn about different areas. You can learn about history, hikingin the canyon, animals, geology and more!<\/p>\n

<\/a>\"\"<\/div>\n

Who Pooped in the Park? Grand Canyon National Park: Scat and Tracks for Kids<\/a>\"\" is funny way to look at the animals of the Grand Canyon. You can see the animals, their tracks and pictures of the animals. My girls though the book title was really funny.<\/p>\n

<\/a>\"\"<\/div>\n

The Lucky Hat<\/a>\"\" is a book about a boy who lost his lucky hat at the canyon and the traveling the hat dones from animal to animal. It also tells about the animals and how they might react to the hat. Plus see the grandaughter travel to the canyon years later!<\/p>\n

Whose Tail on the Trail at Grand Canyon?<\/a>\"\"is another book about the animals at the grand canyon. Do you know all your animal tails? There are fun poems for each tail.<\/p>\n

<\/a>\"\"<\/div>\n

Great Grand Canyon Time Train<\/a>\"\" is looking at the different layers of the Grand Canyon as they would have been way back when! I love the visuals for each layer and makes geology a little bit fun.<\/p>\n

<\/a>\"\"<\/div>\n

In the Canyon<\/a>\"\" is a look at how the trail and what you might see hiking to the river at the Grand Canyon. A lot of the pages have pictures of animals you might see along you way. There is also a map of some of the trails in the back and front of the book.<\/p>\n

The Grand Canyon is a great place to visit and explore! We loved it.<\/p>\n
