We have been reviewing a lot of our place value the past few weeks. Place value is an activity your start as early as first grade and works through many different higher grades. These mats have been a great hands-on activity that can be used so many different ways. If you saw our place value easy reader book<\/a> we loved that one.<\/p>\n

These free apple themed place value mats are really fun. They let you work where you are in your current place value learning.<\/p>\n

The mats are made to make learning the different types of way to see the numbers fun. You can see them in expanded form and then see turn into a standard form on the trees. Plus this is all hands on and fun.<\/p>\n

Each of the mats has a tree and the place value it represents. The trees have ones through hundred billion. There is a spot on each tree for kids to place the apples or write in the number.<\/p>\n

There are 12 apples for each number 0 through 9. These are to be used on the trees to make the numbers. You can cut out the apples you need or use them all. If you use all the place value trees then it will be all the <\/p>\n

There are several sets of the number cards that go from 1 to 9 for each place value. All the cards from ones to hundred billion are all the same size. <\/p>\n

I set up the area with the cards they are going to be using and apple numbers 0 to 9. Then they draw out some of the place value cards and make the number. This is a great way to look at all the different numbers. You can also look at these cards with the place value bookmarks<\/a>. I set up the area with a stack of number cards, the number apples and place value trees. There is also page available for recording the numbers.<\/p>\n

After they complete making the number on the apple trees you can you unifix cubes<\/a>\"\" to see the numbers. It is another way to make this activity hands-on. <\/p>\n

I really like that I can work in the place value that my girls are doing. My youngest is working on ones and tens and my oldest is working on up to a billion.<\/p>\n
