I know that not all of my girls learn the same way. One learns great with flashcards, another with worksheets and one needs anyway I can teach it for her to learn. I have made different things to meet those needs. Today is a free hands-on Christmas tree fraction<\/strong> activity that we did with stormtroopers<\/a> earlier this year that we just loved.<\/p>\n

The Christmas Tree Fraction Printables is an easy way for those visual kids to learn their fractions. Plus this can be used at many different levels of learning.<\/p>\n

What are fractions?<\/h2>\n

It is a numerical quantity that is not a whole number. It is also a number divided into equal parts.<\/p>\n

Examples of fractions are 1\/2 or half of a whole number.<\/p>\n

You can see fractions like 1\/4, 1\/5, 1\/6, 1\/8, 1\/10. There are many different fractions that kids can work on.<\/p>\n

The fractions were all made using the same Christmas tree. This allows kids to see how the fractions fit together. The fractions come in parts and wholes. You can see what one page of the fractions looks like below.<\/p>\n

Ways to use the Christmas Tree Fractions<\/h2>\n

Matching Fraction with Correct Picture<\/h3>\n

You can take some of the basic fractions (1\/2, 1\/3,2\/3, 1\/4, 2\/4 and 3\/4) and work on a simple matching of the numbers and pictures. Even those in first and second grade will be working fractions. This is fun for them to do. Another activity would be to put them in order of size.<\/p>\n

Finding Christmas Tree Fractions that are the Same<\/h3>\n

You can also do some matching of fractions that are the same size. You can look that 3\/6 is the same as 1\/2. You can go through them all and see what fractions are equal in size.<\/p>\n

Using the Christmas Tree Fraction Mat<\/h3>\n

You can also use the mat with these. I know not everyone likes the hands-on mat maths but they work so nice to learn different activities. I like the matching the fractions, comparing fractions and the visual look at them.<\/p>\n
