One common thing for spring is rain. And rain is a vowel team word. It is fun to change up activities to match words. Today printable is a word building activity for the “ai” vowel team words.<\/p>\n

This is a fun hands-on mat for reading, building and writing the words. I have found that I love having these types of mats for kids to learn with. My girls have loved them in the Romping & Roaring Sight Words Sets<\/a>. They make learning words tons of fun.<\/p>\n

This is a great addition to the spring printables<\/a> and vowel team printables<\/a> on the site.<\/p>\n

Vowel team words are something you start learning about early in elementary school age kids. I love how fun they can be. There are so many words to use with the vowel combinations. My girls first learned about vowel teams in the LeapFrog: Talking Words Factory<\/a>\"\". Since rain is a vowel team word I picked that for our spring learning to read activity.<\/p>\n

I printed the printables on cardstock<\/a>\"\" and laminated<\/a>\"\" them.<\/p>\n

Here is a look at how I set up the activity “ai” word building activity. There are only the two vowels in the set “a” and “i”. The beginning and ending letters all match up the ai vowel team cards in the set. All of the letters are on rain drops. The word cards are on clouds. I used a dry erase marker<\/a>\"\" for the writing area.<\/p>\n

As you go through the cards you will see that they all have the “ai” words with the beginning and ending sounds that are different. I tried to get a good mix of the cards.<\/p>\n

You can pull out the words you might want to work on together like all the words that end with n, d or l. Then switch it up. This makes a fun language learning center.<\/p>\n
