Gardens have wonderful rows and plants within the rows that work so well for learning area and perimeter. Geometry is one of those math concepts that is taught over time. It is math about: questions of shape, size, relative position of figures, and the properties of space. <\/p>\n

These free Garden Themed Area & Perimeter Cards are to help learn the size of things. You can fill in the numbers and get the answers for each word problem.<\/p>\n

I wanted something that my girls could sit down and use as a math center for this basic geometric skill. Area and Perimeter are something my girls have started learning in third grade. I wanted a fun way to work on this idea. I think that gardens and rows work perfectly for starting the idea.<\/p>\n

Each of the areas has a sentence that kids can read. They can use the information to build the equations below. The area has the two numbers with multiplication and the perimeter has it for adding the 4 numbers together.<\/p>\n

I laminated<\/a>\"\" all the cards to make them easier to reuse.<\/p>\n

Here is a look at how I set up the activity. I have the cards, an area & perimeter chart and a dry erase marker<\/a>\"\". I put the area & perimeter chart in a sheet protector<\/a>\"\". The area & perimeter chart is a great help for kids that are just starting out with this concept.<\/p>\n

She would read the sentence on each card. Then she would fill out the area on the chart. Then she would label the numbers on the chart to help her out.<\/p>\n

After she had her chart done she filled out the information on her card. We then checked to see if it was right.<\/p>\n
