The Sequin Sensory Bin is a great addition to the New years Activities<\/a> and sensory bins<\/a> on the site.<\/p>\n A sensory bin is typically a plastic tub or container filled with carefully selected materials and objects to stimulate the senses of children in preschool.<\/p>\n Sensory bins might have rice, water beads, corn, beans, or other types filled with small items.<\/p>\n As I said above my girls still like sensory bins. Even my oldest who I will catch playing in the bin on her own. I set out a new or old sensory bin every 2 weeks.<\/p>\n We rotate what is in the bin or what the theme is! I’m always looking for easy bins that I can reuse at any time.<\/p>\n Our sensory bins are part of our calm down area in the house. It is an option for when my girls need that sensory input or just need to calm down before we do homework or other sitting activities.<\/p>\n We have included links to some of the products and resources we have used with this activity. It could be the sound the rice or other items make or just the motion of the scooping.<\/p>\n In the bin this time I put a set of tweezers<\/a>. I gave them the challenge to pick up just stars or circles out of the bin and put it in a cup. This gave them a fine motor challenge. Plus they could not get any rice in the cup. After I gave them the challenge and watched them start doing the activity. I left them to see how many they could get in a minute or two. <\/p>\n After they finished up the sequins, I gave them the challenge of picking up pieces of rice! This was much harder for them to do but loads of fun.<\/p>\n I gave them a final challenge and told them to pick out the sequins using their fingers. This builds fine motor skills that at least one of my daughters needs. It is a simple way to get those skills without doing fine motor<\/p>\n I said at the start that you can change it up for each season! It is easy because there are always different themed sequins or confetti! We recently did the same bin but for Christmas with Christmas confetti<\/a> Now if you are like me I don’t want to dig out sequins from the bin. But I don’t have it. I can just take the rice and sequins and put it in a plastic bag bag! This allows me to pull out this sensory bin idea at any time I want. That I put this sensory bin on a card they can pull for calm down time and I just have put it back in the bin. Then my girls can have the fun they want to have.<\/p>\n You can also store it that way in the room. Just put it in a gallon plastic bag back with the tools and leave it in the bin.
