I know that not all kids learn well with flashcards. I have one that loves having as many hands-on activities as she can to learn. I’m was always looking for new ideas for her. Playdough mats became an easy way to work on her words without struggling for something beyond just reading the cards.<\/p>\n

We love playdough mats at our house and use them as often as we can.<\/p>\n

This week we have the playdough mats with CVCC word family endings: -ank, -ink, -onk, -unk.<\/p>\n

I love that the playdough mats allow you to build so many words and not just those on a set list of words. You can put a blend or digraph at the first of the word and see what happens. But when you need a list it is nice to have them.<\/p>\n

We often use the CVCC Word Family Wall Cards<\/a> or the CVCC Word Family Bookmarks<\/a> with these mats. They make it easy for kids learning to read to pick out what words they might want to make. You can see an example of this below.<\/p>\n

You could also just give them the flashcards<\/a> to flip through and make the words. There are cards to match up to each of the different word endings.<\/p>\n

I like to put the mats in a sheet protectors<\/a>\"\" or laminate<\/a>\"\" them when we will use them over and over. We use playdough<\/a>\"\" on the mats a lot but you can always use some other molding material if you want.<\/p>\n
