They are a fun way to remember where we live and just how big our planet is.<\/p>\n<p>Last year we did a <a href=\"\/wordpress\/index.php\/finger-painted-planet-earth\/\">finger-painted earth<\/a> and had a lot of fun with it. We decided to change it up and do a watercolor Earth this year.<\/p>\n<p>The watercolor Planet Earth painting is a great way to explore how colors spread in the water while doing a fun activity.<\/p>\n<div align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/images\/blog\/4-2019\/watercolor-earth-painting.jpg\" alt=\"Watercolor Planet Earth Process Art - An easy and fun art project for planet Earth using watercolors and oil pastels - 3Dinosaurs.com\" \/><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>The Watercolor Planet Earth Craft is a great addition to the <a href=\"\/wordpress\/index.php\/earth-day-printables-activities-on-3-dinosaurs\/\">Earth Day Crafts<\/a> on the site.<\/p>\n<p>We have done several craft and painting projects similar to this. We have done <a href=\"\/wordpress\/index.php\/torn-paper-planets\/\">planets<\/a> and <a href=\"\/wordpress\/index.php\/fun-to-make-washi-tape-moon\/\">moons<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>Watercolor Planet Earth Craft<\/h2>\n<p>But I always love adding a twist on how we make it. Also check out this <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theinspirationedit.com\/fantastic-earth-day-craft-activity-kids\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Earth Day Craft<\/a> that goes great with this one.<\/p>\n<h3>Draw the Continents of the Circle<\/h3>\n<p>I made the circles on the watercolor paper before we started. That made it easy to just start into the project. We started right into drawing in pencil the continents on the Earth.<\/p>\n<div align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/images\/blog\/4-2019\/watecolorearth2.jpg\" alt=\"Watercolor Planet Earth Process Art - An easy and fun art project for planet Earth using watercolors and oil pastels - 3Dinosaurs.com\" \/><\/div>\n<p>If you want an Earth template with continents to trace you can find it here in the <a href=\"\/wordpress\/index.php\/free-earth-fine-motor-mats\/\">Earth Fine Motor Mats<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3>Outline the Continents &#038; Oceans with Oil Pastels<\/h3>\n<p>Then we outlined our planets in blue, white, and green oil pastels. This was to keep the water from mixing in different areas. We used white for the icecap and Antarctica. <\/p>\n<div align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/images\/blog\/4-2019\/watecolorearth3.jpg\" alt=\"Watercolor Planet Earth Process Art - An easy and fun art project for planet Earth using watercolors and oil pastels - 3Dinosaurs.com\" \/><\/div>\n<p>Then we did the painting part of the project.<\/p>\n<h3>Paint the Earth with Water<\/h3>\n<p>We painted the area with just water. You fill in the whole area that you want to paint. You want it to be raised up a little bit and bubble in that area. You do this be painting watercolors in the water. You can do the area, draw lines or any way you want. It is fun to watch the watercolor spread. It is fun to see how the color spreads through the water as you progress around the Earth.
