Math is always a struggle for some kids and I know that hands-on activities sometimes go better than worksheets. I have always loved matching cards. There are so many ways to use cards.<\/p>\n

Today I have a fraction matching cards with an Earth Day theme. The recycling Earth Day Fraction matching cards are a fun way to do repeat addition with fractions and matching to the correct picture.<\/p>\n

This printable is a great addition to the Earth Day Printables<\/a> on the site.<\/p>\n

There are two types of cards. They match up with the repeat addition fractions and a matching fraction picture. I recommend printing on cardstock<\/a>\"\" and laminating<\/a>\"\" the cards to help them last longer.<\/p>\n

You can see the repeat addition cards here. Each has one type of fraction that kids add together on a recycle bin.<\/p>\n

The second type of card has a matching fraction in pictures. Each of the pictures has items that you can recycle like paper, plastic, and glass items.<\/p>\n

How we used these cards<\/h2>\n

I like to start off with a small set of cards. I often set them up with just a few cards to work work. I started this time with 4 cards. I placed them face up so that they can easily match the cards.<\/p>\n

After they match the cards you can see the repeat addition matches the spots on the picture of the fraction.<\/p>\n

Fraction Help Mats<\/h2>\n

Now if they are struggling with this and need extra help. I made some new Fraction Help mats! There are 8 mats to help kids learn more about fractions. I printed these on color cardstock<\/a>\"\". <\/p>\n

I keep the fraction help mats in sheet protectors<\/a>\"\" in a math help binder. I pulled them out to use with these cards. They have two mats in each sheet protector.<\/p>\n

You can have them pull on the fraction help mat that works best for the fraction they are doing. You can see below how we used the mat with one of the matching cards. You can see the three places the match the fraction and the number line for the fraction below. I used a dry erase marker<\/a>\"\" on the number line and recording the fraction.<\/p>\n
