I used a <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/B071WDXMKZ\/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&#038;camp=1789&#038;creative=9325&#038;creativeASIN=B071WDXMKZ&#038;linkCode=as2&#038;tag=3dinos-20&#038;linkId=3b670fd313a38972d5e2447095f91d7c\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">heart punch 1.5 inch<\/a><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/\/ir-na.amazon-adsystem.com\/e\/ir?t=3dinos-20&#038;l=am2&#038;o=1&#038;a=B071WDXMKZ\" width=\"1\" height=\"1\" border=\"0\" alt=\"\" style=\"border:none !important; margin:0px !important;\" \/> for this. I punched out a few hearts on the cardstock and then cut them out in squares to use.<\/p>\n<div align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\"  src=\"\/images\/blog\/2-2020\/heart-oil-pastel-watercolor2.jpg\" alt=\"Oil Pastel and &#038; Watercolor Heart Painting - making the heart template for the activity - 3Dinosaurs.com\" \/><\/div>\n<h3>Step 2: Place Heart On Watercolor Paper<\/h3>\n<p>You take the heart template that was made and then place in on the watercolor paper. I like the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Canson-Watercolor-Cover-Sheets-White\/dp\/B09NQY86G1?th=1&#038;linkCode=ll1&#038;tag=3dinos-20&#038;linkId=1bc0a6942646d1a966ef39a92d605b17&#038;language=en_US&#038;ref_=as_li_ss_tl\">watercolor paper<\/a> because it gives the painting texture and does well with lots of water on it.<\/p>\n<h3>Step 3: Color Inside the Heart with the Oil Pastel<\/h3>\n<p>You hold the template down and color inside the heart with the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Crayola-Pastels-Supplies-Activities-Assorted\/dp\/B00006IEFP?th=1&#038;linkCode=ll1&#038;tag=3dinos-20&#038;linkId=a762f280446505ac4a55f7f1e974f5f2&#038;language=en_US&#038;ref_=as_li_ss_tl\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">white oil pastel<\/a>. You repeat this process over and over on the paper until you have all the hearts you want.<\/p>\n<p>You could also use the heart shape from the punch to color the outline of it<\/p>\n<p>You repeat this step a few times on the paper.<\/p>\n<div align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\"  src=\"\/images\/blog\/2-2020\/heart-oil-pastel-watercolor3.jpg\" alt=\"Oil Pastel and &#038; Watercolor Heart Painting - using the heart template to make white hearts on the watercolor paper - 3Dinosaurs.com\" \/>\n<\/div>\n<h3>Step 4: use Watercolors to Paint the Paper<\/h3>\n<p>The final step is to use watercolors to color the whole paper. You can do this however you want. As you color the paper the hearts are revealed. I let them decide how they wanted to do this.
