One of the earliest fine motor writing activities that kids do in preschool and kindergarten is working up to doing prewriting. There are many different fine motor writing activities that you can do with prewriting. <\/p>\n

I’ve made a few prewriting printables over the years and I wanted to share all of them with you. These have a variety of levels of learning with different line activities for kids to use.<\/p>\n

They are a great way to work on different levels of prewriting for kids.<\/p>\n

So what is pre-writing?<\/h2>\n

I remember the first time I heard the word pre-writing in school. My first thought was writing a paper or starting a paper.<\/p>\n

But for young kids, pre-writing is the skill to build to work up to writing letters and other types of writing. It also teaches the direction that we read.<\/p>\n

You can start a lot of those skills with fine motor activities with playdough and other small motor movements. But a lot of those skills are working up to prewriting with lines. Then working on more fine motor skills that help to do better with writing and reading later in life.<\/p>\n

You start out with thick prewriting lines and work to thinner prewriting lines. Then to prewriting patterns that work into writing letters.<\/p>\n
