I was gone for 3 days this last week. It made for a strange week for me and the girls. This week when I was home we have worked on hard vs. soft. I wanted them to use sight and touch to see if they could point out items for this. Below is one activity that I did for this. There are lots of suggestions and links to ideas!<\/p>\n<p>We have been doing a lot of sensory this month and one thing we have worked on is hard vs soft. Here are the simple activities that I did with Mary.<\/p>\n<p>What you need: bag (or pillow case) soft items, hard items, paper to sort the items on.<\/p>\n<div align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.3dinosaurs.com\/images\/blog\/3-2013\/sortinghardsoft1.jpg\" alt=\"Sorting Hard &#038; Soft\" \/><\/div>\n<p>Mary felt the two items I gave her. We talked about how they felt. We put hard item by the word hard and soft item by the word soft.<\/p>\n<div align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.3dinosaurs.com\/images\/blog\/3-2013\/sortinghardsoft2.jpg\" alt=\"Sorting Hard &#038; Soft\" \/><\/div>\n<p>Mary got the bag with the hard and soft items in it.<\/p>\n<div align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.3dinosaurs.com\/images\/blog\/3-2013\/sortinghardsoft3.jpg\" alt=\"Sorting Hard &#038; Soft\" \/><\/div>\n<p>I asked her to pull out one soft item. Then she got several soft items.<\/p>\n<div align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.3dinosaurs.com\/images\/blog\/3-2013\/sortinghardsoft4.jpg\" alt=\"Sorting Hard &#038; Soft\" \/><\/div>\n<p>Then she go several hard items out.<\/p>\n<div align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.3dinosaurs.com\/images\/blog\/3-2013\/sortinghardsoft5.jpg\" alt=\"Sorting Hard &#038; Soft\" \/><\/div>\n<p>Mary finished up the sorting. She had a lot of fun with this.<\/p>\n<div align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.3dinosaurs.com\/images\/blog\/3-2013\/sortinghardsoft6.jpg\" alt=\"Sorting Hard &#038; Soft\" \/><\/div>\n<p>All the items sorted!<\/p>\n<div align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.3dinosaurs.com\/images\/blog\/3-2013\/sortinghardsoft7.jpg\" alt=\"Sorting Hard &#038; Soft\" \/><\/div>\n<p>After we finished the sorting we made a pattern: soft then hard. She did this out of all the items from the bag.<\/p>\n<div align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.3dinosaurs.com\/images\/blog\/3-2013\/sortinghardsoft8.jpg\" alt=\"Sorting Hard &#038; Soft\" \/><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><strong>Additional things to do:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Have them point out items in the room that are hard and soft. Then have them tell you why they think it is soft.<\/li>\n<li>Have them describe what makes an item hard or soft.<\/li>\n<li>Ask them about items in the house they use and if they are hard or soft: cups, wash cloth, fork, spoon, favorite stuff animal, clothes, shoes, hanger, the wall, the rug or carpet, sink, flowers, books, bed, pillow, blankets, table.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We spent the whole week on hard and soft and comparing items and seeing what was different. We collected items from all over the house. It was a great learning lesson for them by using sight and touch.<\/p>\n<p>Don&#8217;t forget to link up below.
