One skill that I always get requests for is counting. I know that we have always loved counting books. I know that you can use them so many different ways.
I was looking after I got asked if I had any fall counting books. And well I really did not have any! I thought it would be fun to give your kids another counting book to use this fall.
So we have the free apple tree counting easy reader book.
This is a fun addition to the apple activities on the site.
I love that each child can have their own book. I know that my girls love having their own books they could mark and it was theirs.
These books are simple and easy for your kids to use. Each of the books has a number to trace, a sentence to read and apples on the tree to match.
Ways to Use the Apple Number Counting Book
One of the most basic was for yoru kids to use this book is to color the apple tree, trace the number and underline the matching number in the sentence. It is simple and easy to do. You kids will love having big numbers that match the apples on the tree.
Another great way is for kids to use unifix cubes as counters as you read the book. They place the correct number of cubes at the top of the book. This gives them a hands-on activity as they read the book.
Be sure to scroll to the bottom to get your copy of the free easy reader book.
Using the Full Apple Tree Counting Easy Reader Book Set
Now if you are looking for more. Check out the full set. It has the same book above PLUS so much more. There is a huge collection of activities that match up with two counting books.
You have clip cards, counting mats, reading counting mats, tracing strips and more. All of these work together to work on learning 0 to 10 in fun and different ways.
You can go through the book and then use the apple counting mat and numbers to match the book. This is a great way to make the book hands-on. This is a fun blank mat you can use the number cards and red pom poms to match the apples in the book. If you plan to use the mats a lot I would suggest laminating them. I use my laminator always every week.
You can also read the book with the Apple tree counting chart. This is a fun chart that shows the apples from 0 to 10. It is easy to use with any book you might read. You can cover the chart as you read the book. You can see how we used unifix cubes on the chart.
There are several counting mats in the set. You saw the blank on above. There is also a version that has numbers at the bottom. One number to match and one to trace and then fill the tree with matching apples. We used unifix cubes on this. There is another mat not shown that has the apples on the tree and you match the number to it.
There is a second counting book that has adding up to 10. The girl in the book picks the apples and put them in the apple basket. Then there is one less on the tree. It goes from 0 to 10. You can see the two numbers on each page that add up to 10. Plus there is a fun mat you can use with the book for counting along. We used 1/2 inch red pompoms on the mat.
There is also a fun book counting mat. It tells you how many apples are in the basket and on the tree. Both of the numbers add up to ten. We printed them on cardstock and put them in sheet protectors and used them in a binder. This always you to flip through the binder and read the pages. You can also just pull them out an use them one at a time. If you plan to use them a lot it might be best to laminate them.
There is an addition mat that comes with the set. The first one comes with the apple basket and tree on the page. Then you mix up the numbers and show how to add up to 10 with the two numbers.
The second mat for adding up to 10 has an area to place the apple tree and apple basket to add up to 10. You can see how it works like the mat before. You can use the number cards on the bottom and apple tree and apple baskets above them. It allows you to pick which numbers will add up to ten.
There are two flipbooks at the end of the book for counting apples. They come in color and black and white. The color ones work great on a ring to flip through the books. The black and white ones work great for making your own little counting books. Cut the tops off the pages and staple them together. They come in a solid number and a tracing the number option for both.
There are 3 sets of tracing strips. They have an apple basket that matches the number on the strip. They have number digit and number word, number digit only, and number word only. You can laminate them and have kids trace the numbers. You can see one of the sets below and how it is laminated and on a ring.
Another fun activity you can use for counting is which has more clip cards. This compares the two apple trees and you clip the tree that has more apples. This is a great fine motor activity you can do with clothespins or even paperclips. I recommend laminating the cards to help them last longer.
