Chapter Books We Are Exploring Spring 2015

Spring is here and time for another Chapter Books we are exploring. It is always interesting to see the different and new series that are coming out. We got some new series that we tried out and we love them.

There is an animal, humor and Greek theme for this seasons chapter books. A lot of the books are good for beginners. It is important to remember that you want to make sure you child is reading their current reading level.

Chapter Books We Are Exploring Spring 2015: Pet Hotel, Amelia Bedelia, Owl Diaries, Sophie Mouse, Heroes in Training & Dragon Masters  -

Pet Hotel

This is very fun and funny series about Meg and Charlie make a run down hotel in a hotel for pets. It is fun to read the stories about the pets that come to stay at the hotel. There is humor and loads of fun reading them.
Reading Level Information: DRA: 34-38; Guided Reading: O; Grade level Equivalent: 3.

Amelia Bedelia

Amelia Bedelia is a classic and kids love to read it. This chapter book series shows her when she is younger. It has the same twists on words and fun that we love from the older books. There is a fun challenge with each book. I love to read how she goes about that challenge her way of thinking. It is fun to see her younger and this is a great read for kids that like humor.
Reading Level Information: DRA: 38; Guided Reading: P; Grade level Equivalent: 4.2

Owl Diaries

This is another new series in the Scholastic Branches Series. We really love these book and I like that they are really for those just getting into chapter book. There are lots of images and fun things to read on each page that go with the story. I love how colorful the book is. Eva the main character has big ideas and does not like asking for help. She how she goes about getting all her projects and ideas done. Currently only one book is out but book 2 is coming soon.
Reading Level Information: DRA: 24; Guided Reading: M; Grade level Equivalent: 2

Sophie Mouse

Sophia Mouse is another new series that is just coming out. This is a fun series about a mouse and her adventures with her classmates. Each one has a challenge that they have to accept a new student or do a new adventure. It has big writing and pictures on almost every page. This is great for a beginner who is just starting out in chapter books.
Reading Level Information: Ages 5-9 on the back of the book.

Heroes in Training

This is a Greek Mythology series about when they were younger. This has been tons of fun to use with the Greek Mythology Pack. You get to see how each of the Greek God got their powers and over threw the Titans. This is great for an older child that has a good reading ability. This is a 3rd to 4th grade reading level book series.
Reading Level Information: DRA: 40; Guided Reading: Q; Grade level Equivalent: 4

Dragon Masters

This is a fun new dragon series that we just started reading. This has dragons, kings, wizards and magic. A boy is taken to a castle where he gets to learn to train dragons. He is joined by others as well. Each of the books they get to learn about their dragons and about themselves as well.
Reading Level Information: DRA: 34-38; Guided Reading: P; Grade level Equivalent: 2.2
