What is a digraph?
A digraph is two letters together that make one sound. Digraphs can be made up of vowels or consonants.
Some examples of consonant digraphs would be ch-, -ch, -ck, gh, kn-, ph, qu-, sh-, -sh, th-, -th, wh-, and wr-.
What digraphs should I teach first?
You often start learning digraphs it is in easily decodable words. You start with short vowel endings like “IP”.
So you would make words like chip and ship. They can decode the word ending and you can teach them the digraphs sound at the start.
Most often you start teacher ch, sh, th, and wh first. They will find words they know life chair, ship, and thumb that work great for teaching the digraphs.

Digraph Cards & Wall Cards
These are easy cards of different types that you can use to learn with digraphs. They are fun to use to help with reading.
Digraph Wall Cards has the beginning and ending digraph examples for kids to see. There is also a selling set of the Digraph Wall Cards & Ladders that has examples of the digraphs with two sizes of cards.
Digraph Matching Cards have matching digraph picture with a word that has the same digraph.
