Elephant and Piggie Our Favorite Kindergarten Books!

As the years have come and gone we have loads of books that we have just loved to read. But one set of books my girls have all liked are the Elephant and Piggie Books by Mo Willems!

Each of my girls has just LOVED these books. They have been fun to look for as we went to the bookstore. I don’t think a week has gone by in the last 5 years that we have not read at least one of the books.

We have slowly collected all the books in the series. My youngest who is just finishing up kindergarten always loves to have the books read to her and is now reading them on her own. She has learned so many different words while we have read the books. They have repetitive words few words on each page. We love the comic book style of books!

Meeting Mo Willems and Elephant & Piggie!

Why this really fun post….because we got to meet Mo Willems this weekend! Yes, my girls were totally thrilled and was a great experience for them and me to go to! We got to have The Thank You Book read to us. My girls loved his reading and enjoyed every minute of it!

Mo Willems did not at any time stand still or sit while reading the book. He was lively and creative with every character in the book. Our reading of the books may change slightly.

We drove over an hour to get to the book reading and signing. I thought for sure my girls would be upset with all the sitting around and waiting for getting the books signed. In fact, they did great with all the waiting. During the waiting, they got to meet Elephant and Piggie. Plus everyone was reading his books while waiting. It was so much fun to see my girls smile and get excited about the whole experience.

We bought several new books to get them signed. He asked if they had any questions and answered them. In fact, he wanted parents to know he wanted to look at each of the kids in the eye and he was there for the kids to see him. Plus for the group picture he suggested we all make our best monster faces. My girls really enjoyed that! He is a favorite author at our house for sure. After we got done it was all they talked about.

  1. WOW, sooooo jealous! We too love Mo Willems and all his fun characters especially, Elephant and Piggie. It all started for our family around preschool when my son listed “Don’t let the Pigeon Dry the Bus” as his favorite book during his exit interview, one which we had never read at home…. humm, so what do you think we did???? Go to the library and book stores and get every Mo Willem’s books we could get our hands onto! that was just the begining. This was the author who helped my son learn to read. i will always be thankful for that! No curriculum just pure fun and reading bliss…! Now almost four years later the kids at grades 2&3, still do and probably will always love his books. As the kids have been advancing and have moved onto chapter books we have been able to still use these amazing books for plays that the kids and I have acted out, writing prompts, art, character discussions on what it means to be a good friend, and much more! I thought I saw that there will be only one more Elephant and Piggie book in the series, so sad if this is true, but I’m sure Mo Willem’s has something amazing and fun he is creating to share with the world.

    1. Yes the Thank You Book is the last book in the series. It is sad it is ending but he did mention more things were coming. 🙂
