As you are getting ready to use the ten frame cards you are going to want to print them on white cardstock and laminate them. This will help them stand up to repeated use in number learning centers.

One activity you can do to work on one to one correspondences with the ten frames is to have kids cover the houses on the ten frames. You can have them count as they cover the houses.
They cover the first house and say one and continue until they have covered all the houses on the card. We use clear glass gems with this activity. It lets them see the houses after they count.
Using Hands-On Items with the Ten Frames
You can also do counting with the blank ten frames. The blank ten frame is great for kids who have done great with the counting and covering and are ready for more of a challenge.
You are going to use a hands-on item like unifix cubes. We used red, brown, and yellow for the different houses. You can see that we place the cubes on the ten frame to match the number.
Using Two Colors of Unfix Cubes To Make the Number
You can also use two colors of unifix cubes to make the numbers on the blank ten frame. You can see we use two colors to make the number ten.
You could also do this with the houses on the ten frames. They cover the houses with two colors of unifix cubes. It is a simple way to work on addition with ten frames.
