ABC Phonics Ladders are a great set of printables to have for early reader printables. They are fun and work well with my CVC, CVCE and CVCC words. These allow you to make many different words.
When I went through the list of things I wanted to use with my girls this year a phonics ladder is a great addition to the learning to read printables. These match up with other of the ABC printables on the site. They go well with the ABC Dot markers and the ABC Color Pages. For all the examples we used Appletters.
I use them several different ways. One of the ways I do is on the word wall when we are working on one letter. We often go through through the letter and vowel sounds as review.
To start it is fun to take one letter through the ladder and see how the starting and ending sounds remain the same with the vowel changing. We talk about if they make a word or not.
We use the Appletters and make words with them. We might do several letters to make the words. I might give as many as 8 letters to see if they can make real words.
Don’t forget CVCE and CVCC words. These will work nice for them as well. Pick a blend of digraph that comes at the end of a word and see where it fits on the ladder.
What are you going to find in these printables:
12 pages of printables – all the consonant with the vowels. There are 2 ladders per page. The top of each ladder has pictures that start with that letter.
