Space Theme: Mars Sensory Bin with Kinetic Sand
We love sensory bins and changing up themes for sensory bins is always fun.
Today we have a Mars themed sensory bin. It is a great way to take about exploring Mars. We had a blast doing our watercolor Mars and now this is fun addition to ideas you can try.
Plus it is a great addition to space sensory bins on the site!
The Mars Sensory Bin is a great addition to the space activities and sensory bins on the site.
What is a sensory bin?
A sensory bin is typically a plastic tub or container filled with carefully selected materials and objects to stimulate the senses of children in preschool.
Sensory bins might have rice, water beads, corn, beans, or other types filled with small items.

Mars Book to Read with the Mars Sensory Bin
One fun book we have always loved is Mousetronaut Goes to Mars. This is a fun book to read with this sensory bin.
I love the idea that we will go to mars and explore the planet. And that is what makes this sensory bin fun. It can be a great way for kids to talk about how they would explore Mars!

Ways to Use the Mars Sensory Bin
We built a Mars landscape. It is really a lot of fun to see how creative you can be. It has been fun to see new pictures of Mars and what the land looks like.

It is always fun to see the way kids explore the items in the bin. And yes my older girls still love playing in the sensory bins and just relaxing with the play.
You can talk to them about the different parts in the Space TOOB while doing the Mars sensory bin. We talked about each part and what it did. We also talked about the current Mars rover that just landed.

You can also bury all the space items and then dig them out. This is great sensory play for kids.

You can also use the bin for a little writing practice. First I have them flatten the sand out in the bin.

Then you use part of the Space TOOB or a stick to spell the words. It would be fun to do the star sight word matching activity and then write in sight word in the bin.
You could also have them arrange the rocks to spell the words.
Sensory bins are always fun to play in.
