Learning letters of the alphabet is a skill that kids work on through Prek and kindergarten. They work on matching letters, sounds, and words.
Today’s free Polar bear ABC matching puzzles works on all those skills. You have letters, words, and picture matching for each letter of the alphabet in a four piece puzzle for each letter.
A simple hands-on way to work on letters with a fun arctic animal theme.
We have included links to some of the products and resources we have used with this activity. If you purchase via the links we may earn a small commission.
I always get requests for working on beginning sounds and matching letters. So I wanted to put the two activities together. As a fun way to work on those letter activities.
You also have two building mats that can be used with this polar bear ABC matching puzzles. They come in two options for you to use.

Ways to use the Polar Bear ABC Matching Puzzles
The way these alphabet puzzles are made is so that you can match any combination that you want. All puzzle pieces fit together.
You could start with matching all four pieces of the puzzles. You can mix them up any way you want.
But you are not limited to just that. You can match them several other ways as well!
You can match two pieces of the puzzles. You could match the letters only, a letter and the picture, or the picture and words are just a few that you could do. You can match the alphabet bet puzzles any way you want!
You can also match three of the puzzle pieces. Which three can be up to you. I really wanted a flexible puzzle that could grow with kids as they learn their letters and alphabet sounds.
You can see how I matched the letters and the picture here.
You can see the letters and the word matching here. It really is simple and fun to mix up how you use the cards
Now there is a puzzle building mat that you can use. It was made so that the puzzles can be used to work on writing as well. It gives another step in learning their letters.
The first mat has a place to build the puzzles and then areas for writing the uppercase and lowercase letters. You can see that we put the page in a sheet protector and wrote the letters with a dry erase marker on it. This allows us to reuse the sheet.
The second puzzle mat has a space for writing the word and the letters. This allows for kids to grow with the puzzles and the mat.
