Beach has always been a favorite theme on the site. I love putting out something for it every year. I love that you can also use the theme in winter as a looking towards summer as well.
Today I have a fun letter and number sorting activity. I thought it would be fun to have an activity that works on using both! You get to have a fun time sorting shells.

Beach Number & Letter Sorting Printables
The Beach Number & Letter Sorting is a fun way to work on the differences between letters and numbers. You have uppercase letters, lowercase letters, and numbers. These are all on the same shell for kids to see. You have two sorting mats to use for the numbers and letters.
A great hands-on activity for kids in prek (ages 4 to 5) and kindergarten (ages 5 to 6).
Shell Letters and Numbers Card Printables
The set has all 26 letters of the alphabet in uppercase and lowercase and numbers 1 to 24. I have both sets of letters because some people work just uppercase or just lowercase.
Each letter and number is on a shell to be sorted.

There are two buckets with the words letters and numbers. This is the sorting mat that you can use with kids.

How we used the Beach Letter & Number Sorting Printable
You will see a few ways we used the beach letter and number sorting printable with kids.
Use the Beach Letter & Numbers in a Sensory Bin
You can give them a set number of letter and numbers to sort in a sensory bin. This allows them to see some of the letter and numbers and have some sensory play.
We used rice for the sensory bin filler. You can use other items for the filler as well.
Sort the Letter and Numbers To the Pails
You will pull the numbers and numbers out of the sensory bin and sort them to the correct bucket.
If you have younger kids start of just one of the cases of letters. If they are older have them sort a mixed set of uppercase and lowercase letters.
Write the Letters & Numbers Kids Have Sorted
After you have sorted them you can have them write out the letters and number they sort on a piece of blank paper. We use the beach themed writing paper. They traced each letter across one line.
Uppercase and Lowercase Letter Matching Idea
Because the set has uppercase and lowercase letters you can do some matching. It is a fun way to reuse letters.
Counting with the Shell Number Cards
You can also use the shell numbers cards for counting activities. You can give them a number and some unifix cubes and have them match the number.
You could also switch and use it for adding with two colors of the cubes.
