Being a Mom Means…

Over the last few weeks I’ve had a lot of time to think about what does it mean to be a mom. I spent a few days away from my girls and it made me think a lot about them and what is important. I know that I’m always trying to be the best mom that I can be.

I thought I would share some of my thoughts and feelings for Mother’s Day.

Being a Mom Means:

Listening to them read me same story for the 5th time today because they really want it read again.

Taking the time to stop and be apart of what is happening rather than sitting off to the side.

Painting fingernails even when it is not a great time to do it.

Seeing the needs of a child before it become a problem.

Reading the same book over and over because they love it.

Taking time away from busy work and taking time with them.

Seeing more in a day than just how many dishes I’ve done or laundry I’ve washed.

Watching the first and lasts in their lives.

Reading later than planned because they just want one more chapter.

Studying books that they might like to have me read.

Staying up later to make sure everyone is okay.

Watching the same movie again because it is their favorite.

Sharing my love with them.

Lots of extra hugs during the day.

Fixing the foods they like to eat and seeing them smile.

Leaving out extra craft materials to have fun.

Finding extra time for the last minute requests.

Listening to silly requests and smiling at them.

Explaining the same thing again and again when they ask.

Finding what all the parts are to a car engine so I can explain how it works.

Learning over 150 dinosaurs names and how to pronounce then right.

It also means taking on lots of extra rolls:

A dentist assistant to make my child happy at the dentist.

A nurse for when they are hurt and sick.

A late night dream helper for the nightmares.

A teachers assistant with homework.

A tour guild on trips.

A full time dishwasher.

A seamstress to fix ripped stuff animals.

A full time cook.

A creative printable maker on demand.

A flexible planner of time.

A full time librarian for their reading needs.

A dictionary for all the words they want to spell or know about.

A photographer for all the random pictures they want.

A referee for all the squabbles that come up.

A hair dresser for the last minute hair requests.

A gym teacher for the created gross motor requests.

and so much more….

Most of all being a mom means that care and love my girls no matter what.

What does being a mom mean to you?

A final thought from me…being a mom is something you learn every day, not something you can be told how to do.
