Setting up the Candy Money Clip Cards
Clipping Money with the Least Amount of Coins
You can start by reading the amount on the card. Then you clip the coins around the card to match the amount. You can tell them to clip the least amount of coins to make the number.
Clipping Money with the Most Amount Coins
You can also switch up and tell them to use as many coins as they can to add up the number. It is great that you can switch up how you use the coin clip cards.
Matching Coins to the Clip Cards
You can also take the coins and match the coins to equal the coin amount on the clip card. This turns it into a matching activity and a money counting activity.
You can use pretend coins if you don’t want to use real ones.
Help Adding Coins
If they are struggling with adding up the coins you can use a 100 chart to help.
You can put the chart in a sheet protector and then circle the amount of each coin. You can see how we did it with one of the cards.
Additon ways to use the Money Clip Cards
You don’t have to use clip the cards and be done. You can ask kids other questions about the cards.
– You can ask them what is the value of the coins not clipped.
– You can ask how many coins are left of each type and write the amount for each coin.
– You can compare the difference in the coins used and coins left.
I hope these additional ideas give you a few other ways to use the coin clip cards.
