Making Snowflakes – Snowflake Cookie Cutter Painting

Snowflakes are great for kids to paint and this is an easy process art where kids can have fun painting with snowflakes with cookie cutters.

You can explore different sizes, count the corners on each of the snowflakes, and make a great winter art project.

What is cookie cutter painting?

Cookie cutter painting is where you use a cookie cutter as your paintbrush for the painting. You can do a mix of color and other different types of cookie cutters.

Today’s cookie cutter painting is with snowflakes. They are fun and pretty and make a great painting craft that kids can do.

We read the book Snow by Uri Shulevitz is one of our favorite books to read about snow. It is fun to read and watch the picture change as it snows.

What you need to make your Snowflakes Cookie Cutter Painting

• blue construction paper snowflake pattern drawn on it
• paint tray or paper plate to hold paint
• snowflake cookie cutters
• white paint

You can use one snowflake or many snowflakes cookie cutters. Older kids might like different sizes of snowflakes and younger kids might like just one size of snowflake cookie cutter to make it easier.

How we made the Snowflake Cookie Cutter Painting

You are going to see the steps that we used to make the cookie-cutter snowflake painting.

Put Snowflake Cookie Cutter in the Paint

You want to make sure the cookie cutter is covered in paint. It helps make a better snowflake on the paper.

We used a paper plate because of the size of some of the snowflakes.

Stamp Snowflake Cookie Cutter on the Paper

You then stamp the cookie cutter on the paper. You can place it anywhere they want on the paper.

Remember this is about kids being creative not about a set way to paint.

After they stamp the snowflake on the paper you can lift it up and see the snowflake on the paper.

It is fun to see the six-sided snowflake shape on the blue paper.

Stamp More Snowflake on the Paper

Then let kids be as creative as they want. They can paint any way they want with the cookie cutters. They can stamp, slide the cookie cutter, and more.

This painting craft is about leaving it open to how they want to paint with the cookie cutters.

If you worry about paint getting everywhere put down extra paper on the table.
