Stars & Flag Watercolor Painting
The 4th of July is coming soon. This is a fun and easy activity to do with watercolors. Stars and flags are always a great theme for the season. We have been really enjoying our watercolor painting for the last few months.
This is the newest set of our cookie cutter paintings. This is a fun and easy way to do fun paintings. Our first projects of this type was a heart collage. It was fun and we keep doing these paintings.
We read the book Red, White, and Blue: The Story of the American Flag (Penguin Young Readers, Level 3) before this activity. We learned about the colors. I like pairing activities with books.

How to make the watercolor painting
The idea of this painting is to use the cookie cutter to make the shapes. You fill it in with any kind of paint. We like the watercolor paints because we can layer them and it looks really neat. She has to hold to cookie cutter in place while she paints. This is also great for fine motor skills while they hold the cookie cutter.
We have fun mixing the colors around and putting different layers on patterns on top of each other. It is fun to see what they create.
