Bat CVC Word Family Words

Learning the CVC word family words is always fun to do. There are many different ways to work with them. This Halloween time we have been using some fun foam bats to make our CVC word family words. This is fun for the kids and is a great review of of the words for older kids.

We worked on a few of the words that she has been reading in her current book bag. There are always lots of fun CVC words. We did some words in the BOB Books Rhyming Word as well.

This was really simple to set up. It did not take long to put the activity together. I like it when I can do simple activities with my girls and they still work on their activities they need.

What you need: foam bats, sharpie white and Appletters.

We also used the CVC Word Family Wall Cards as a help with words.

She would look over the letters and review the letters on the tray and their sounds. We would review the sound on the bat. After we had review the sounds she would put one of the tiles on the bat and make a word. We would talk about did it make a word or not. We talked about how the same tile on a different ending did not make a word.

We would check with the CVC Word Family Wall Cards for some of the words when she was not sure if it was a word. This reinforced the words to her. We would look at the definition of words that she was not sure what it meant.

We also had fun just making different words. One fun thing we did was try to make a sentence using all the words. It was fun and the big challenge was using all four words together. It did not always work out.

Example: The cat jumped over a pin. The hen dug in the dirt.
