Sensory bin are really meant for sensory play. And you should let kids just play in sensory bin. You can add cups or other sensory tools if you need them. But just running your hands in the sensory bin with the different between the button and rice is fun for kids.
Sort Colors in the Sensory Bin
You can do a fun color sort activity with the buttons. You can do red on one side and blue on the other side. You can talk about each of the colors as they sort them. Or you can just sort the colors in the sensory bin. Kids who love sorting will love this activity. And picking up buttons is great for fine motor.

Make Letters, Numbers & Shapes in the Button Sensory Bin
You can have a little fun and make letters, numbers and shapes with the buttons in the sensory bin. Once the buttons are sorting you can make them in the center of the sensory bin.
