What is a CVC Word?
A CVC word is a consonant vowel consonant word. They are words like fin, hen, and can. Most CVC words are easy to sound out. You can find examples of CVC words on the CVC Word Family Wall Cards.
They are some of the basic beginning phonics that kids learn.
I love that these cards work on CVC words in a fun way for kids. You get to work on letters sound and sounding them out. You can find the matching letter for the sound. Then sound out the word. Then you get to match the picture to the word!
All great ways to work on words!
You have several word cards to learn with. They all end with n. So you have a similar ending sound. They have -an, -en, -in, and -un words. There are three word cards for each CVC ending.
You can see what the cards look like right here. They have a space for the letters below the pictures and a space for matching the picture to the card. The set has matching letters for each CVC card.
There are several share fins. These have the matching pictures to the words. There are shark fins for each CVC n ending.
There is a decoding page that can help with the letter sounds. It shows the pictures of the vowels up top and the rest of the letters in order below. You can see the uppercase and lowercase of the letters.

Ways to use the Shark Themed CVC Decoding Printable
Here is an example of how you might set up the center. You give them a set of decoding cards, fins, lacing letters, and decoding chart. You can limit the letters to the ones they will need or give them more. It depends on the level of the student.
You can see the card filled out here. It has the shark fin and the matching letters.
Another way to set up these cards would be to do just the shark fins and the cards. I also used the lacing letters.
Then you have fun, either way, matching the shark fins and building words!
