Sharks are so much fun and I love that this is a shark fin activity. It is like the sharks are swimming at the top of the water and you can just see the fins.

This shark alphabet matching activity has ocean mats with pictures that have the beginning sound of each letters. There are uppercase letters and lowercase letters on shark fins. An easy matching activity for kids working on beginning sounds.

The shark letter sound matching activity is great for kids in prek (ages 4 to 5) and kindergarten (ages 5 to 6).

Ways to use the Shark ABC Matching Printables

There are so many combinations that you can use these cards with! And I thought I would show you a few ways to use them.

Preparing the Shark Beginning Sound Matching Cards

You can print the shark fin letters and the ocean cards on cardstock and laminate them. This helps them last longer in learning centers.

Setting Up A Shark Beginning Sound Matching Center

You can start by setting up a matching area. I like to limit the number of cards when kids are first starting out. You can show you the three sorting mats and the letters that match them. You can see the mats with just the letters to match. I like to start off simple at first.

Matching the Shark Letter Cards to the Beginning Sounds

You can match the cards to the mat. You can do this in several ways. Just remember only do what you need. If you need both case use both cases of letters. But if you are only doing one case. Then just use that case of letters.

Match Uppercase Letter Only

You can see an example of where you can just match the uppercase letters.

Match Lowercase Letter Only

Then switch it up and do the lowercase letters only. You can be flexible in what you are working on.

Match Both Letters to the Beginning Sound

After you are ready then match both cases of letters. You can see how we did uppercase on one side and lowercase on the other side.

You can also have fun just matching the ABC shark fins! You can turn the cards over and have them match the cases of the letters.

You can do just a few letters or all the letters. For younger kids it is easier to start with just a few letters

Match Letters on rings

You could also make the same abc matching activity on rings. So that they can flip through the cards on the rings and match the letters. This is easier for some that matching on table. And keeps the letters cards together.

You can also take that same set of cards on rings and use them with the mats. They move through the mats and then match the cards on the rings. It makes an easy learning center for kids.

Sort Lacing letters to the Ocean Mats

You can also mix things up and pull out the lowercase lacing letters and uppercase lacing lettersand have them sort the letters to the right mats! You can see we did the different cases on side of the mats. Plus this is great for those hands-on learners.
