How we made the Night Sky Constellations
You will find all the steps we did below and see how we made the night sky constellations.
Step 1: Draw the Sky Line on the Paper
We started off by drawing the skyline on the watercolor paper. This is where the mountains meet the sky. We had fun picking out how are mountains should look.
If you have younger kids you might want to draw this line for them.
Step 2: Color the Constellations with Oil Pastels
Then we took the book A Child’s Introduction to the Night Sky and picked out our constellation we are doing to do. You the pencil in the stars on the sky part of the painting. Then we took a white oil pastel and made tiny marks on help see the marks later. The pencil first was to make sure we could erase any mistakes.
Step 3: Colored the Mountains with Oil Pastels
We started off with coloring out mountains. We used dark blue oil pastels for this. It made them stand out more than if we had done black for them.
Step 4: Painting the Night Sky Black
Then we used watercolors to paint the sky black. We found some large paint brushes to help speed up the painting of the large area.
Step 5: Make and Glue the Stars for the Constellations
Then we pulled out the yellow glitter cardstock and punched out some stars for our constellations. We used really small star punches for this.
Then we glued the stars on the paper. The yellow glitter cardstock sticks out really well on the black background.
Step 6: Put a Moon in the Sky
Finally, we punched out a yellow circle for the moon and glued it on the paper. we used the same yellow glitter paper we used for the stars.
